Groundwater Sustainability Agency

The Kings Subbasin is located in the southern part of the San Joaquin Valley with the majority of surface water being supplied from the Kings River.  The Central Kings Groundwater Sustainability Agency (CKGSA) is one of the seven GSAs within the Kings Groundwater Subbasin.  The many decades of groundwater recharge and ample canal space including the continued development of ponding basins, has made this portion of the Kings Basin in a very good position to become sustainable.  The gradual decline in the overall groundwater conditions will be addressed with the development of the Central Kings Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP).
The CKGSA Board of Directors adopted the GSP in compliance with the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act on December 11, 2019.  In January 2022, the Department of Water Resources deemed the GSP incomplete requiring revisions within 180 days.  On July 13, 2022, the CKGSA Board of Directors adopted the Revised GSP.
